This Close Listening Workshop invites you to explore how language makes itself heard in art today. A specially curated screening of three works by Laure Prouvost gives you an opportunity to engage intensely with her voice-driven video practice. Each work is framed by a presentation that primes participants to listen afresh to breath, rhythm, gaps, slips and marks of embodiment in vocal performance. Through listening experiments and a mediated discussion, we will think together about the voice as it relates to power, pleasure and play. Sign up here.

Three of Laure Prouvost’s videos will be screened during the workshop: DIT LEARN (2017), Swallow (2013), and The Artist (2010).

Participants may want to sign up for Voice and How to Hear It, which takes place from 11-1 on the same day.

This event will take place as part of the JHG Community Takeover. Community and learning are at the heart of John Hansard Gallery. From 9 May to 6 July, come and experience an exciting range of creative ideas and talents presented by different local groups and partners from across the city of Southampton in our Gallery 1 space. Explore, celebrate, and join in!
